Mano's Restaurant & Lounge

With my mom and wife I went out for lunch at Mano’s. I have been here a number of times and always enjoy it. Most meals come with all manner of starters and sides and accompaniments. I cannot remember a visit I did not have the chicken lemon rice soup. It is ridiculously lemon flavoured. Over the top with lemon. I love it.

The Greek salad I had, at a Greek restaurant, had a delicious dressing but only 2 olives, 1 tomato slice, and 1 green pepper slice. That was the extent of the Greek veggies. (Okay, yes, tomatoes and olives are technically fruits). It was lacking in proper Greek salad standards and had a hodgepodge of strange foreign veggies. Carrots? Cabbage? Radishes? What? Really?

The lemon potatoes are much like the soup, except it is a potato and not a soup. Same lemon type sauce (avgolemono). The fries where good: salty and crisp. The Caesar salad was okay; it had a nice dressing and no funny veggies snuck in, but was way over dressed. I had Greek ribs, mom had chicken slovakia, and my wife had the daily quiche. All three tasted fine, the ribs where the best.

The service was fast, friendly, and competent.  Jokes, smiles, and no “get the hell out of here you are just sitting talking and you have already finished your meal.” I realize that sometimes if a table needs to be turned hangers-on need a gentle push towards the door. But, when things are not too busy I like to stay and chat sometimes.

The food was good, despite my radish-cabbage-Greek salad, as was the service. Their supper prices are a bit high for the quality of food I think. It is not fine dining but some of the supper prices are more than I’d care to pay for it. However, they have great lunch prices and good food. You get a lot of food with your orders: soup, salad, side, veggies, and meat. They also have $10 off a bottle of wine on Wednesdays. They have done renovations to the place, and it looks great. I think they are looking for a bit of a higher clientele than the previous family oriented place I remember. I liked it more then. The soup is still how I remember it and one of my favourite things. The Greek ribs I would advocate ordering. Good, not excellent, food and good service. It is worth a trip. I would suggest going to lunch there, or supper on wine Wednesday, and get the soup. Well, if you like excessively lemony soups that is.
